Today’s Scripture: For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

An elephant at a circus crushed a woman’s red station wagon. The owners of the animal apologized, explaining that for some reason the animal liked to sit on red cars. They apologized and said they would cover any repairs that were needed. In spite of the damage, the woman’s car was still driveable.

On the way to the garage, she was stopped short by an accident involving two cars just ahead of her. When the ambulance arrived a few minutes later, the attendants took one look at her car, and then ran over to assist her.

“Oh, I wasn’t involved in this accident,” she explained. “An elephant sat on my car.” The ambulance attendants quickly bundled her off to the hospital for possible shock and head injuries, despite the lady’s protests.

I’m sure that dear lady never thought her life would be such a circus when she got up that morning. I think one of the keys to the Christian life is to expect the unexpected. I believe that God wants us to have a schedule of what we plan to do. But don’t be so stuck in your plan that you can’t go to Plan B. Sometimes, I have found myself at Plan Z before the day is over, but that is okay. When I anticipate that God’s ways are not our ways, then I’m not caught in the trap of ordering God to follow my plan, rather, I allow myself to follow His.

Do you feel like an elephant just sat on your car? You aren’t alone. Plan B is just around the corner.
