Today’s Scripture: As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Peter 4:10

There was once a little boy who wanted $100. He wanted it so bad, so he prayed. “Lord, would you give me a hundred dollars?” Nothing happened. The little boy decided to write God a note. In the letter, he wrote,

“Dear Lord,
This is Billy. I really would like a hundred dollars.”

He mailed the letter, addressing it to “The Lord, USA.” The post office didn’t know what to do with this letter, so one postal service employee thought it would be a good idea to send it to the IRS. When the letter arrived, one of the agents was surprised, and amused. He decided to write the little boy back and give the boy $5. The little boy got the letter, was excited about the $5, but was a little concerned. He wrote the Lord back saying,

“Dear Lord,
Thank you so much for sending the money. However, I noticed for some reason You had to send it through the IRS and they took $95.”

Sometimes it seems like that is what the IRS does. You know what though? The Lord really does own everything. What we get is a blessing from Him. Many times we are like little Billy. We are given an undeserved blessing, but we think that we deserve so much more. In reality, we are given so much more than we deserve. We may look at what others have and think we have been deprived of blessings, but God gave us His Son and provides for our physical needs.

Knowing that we are blessed beyond what we deserve, we ought to give to our local church as He leads. This is how we show that we believe God is the source of our blessings. Until you practice giving the way God says, you will never experience life as God intends it. Don’t get caught up wishing more physical blessings for yourself; show how thankful you are by giving back to the One Who provides everything for you.
