Today’s Scripture: For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:14

This is the time of year when many people resolve to exercise more, eat healthy, and lose weight. In my studying, I learned something that kind of surprised me, but the more I thought about it, it did not surprise me. I learned that treadmills were originally invented for prisoners. Long wooden treadmills were built, and the prisoners would walk on them, causing a big wheel to spin and turn a mill that would grind grain. The prisoners would be forced to do this for hours. This history just solidifies in my mind what a treadmill really is – a form of punishment!

What is the law of love? Look at our scripture passage today: “All of the law is fulfilled in one word, even this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Why would the law of loving your neighbor as yourself help you keep the commandments?

It is not about keeping the commandments to be saved, but knowing that they are good and right and wanting the Lord to help you keep them. If you love your neighbor as yourself, you are not going to covet what they have. Instead, you will be happy for them and you will thank God that He has blessed them. You will not be lusting after it. If you care about your neighbor, then the last thing you will want to do is to hurt them by taking what is theirs. If you love people you are not going to steal from them.Walking in the spirit is the key to successfully being able to keep the law of love and keep the commandments.

If you do not walk in the spirit but you walk in the flesh, and if you do not walk with God but you walk with the wicked, then your fruit will bear wickedness. That is not what God wants. What God wants in your life is the fruit of the Spirit.

How can we have such abundance? How can we have our lives help people and bless them? How can we be blessed so that we can bless others? The Bible says to meditate on the Word of God day and night.
