Today’s Scripture: That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:9-12

What makes a swimming pool more inviting than a lake during the summer? Is the ability to control the temperature settings a selling point? Or is it the absence of fish and leeches? I believe the answer is simply that we can see the bottom. As human beings, we rely more heavily upon sight than we think.

We gravitate toward those things we can see. We pursue employment that appears promising for our family and our financial needs. We purchase a car because it looks like it will meet our transportation or performance needs. This is why it’s so difficult to comprehend a free gospel of grace through faith in an invisible God. We can’t see the “bottom,” the Object of our faith. The offer seems too good to be true.

Do you know a friend, neighbor or relative who won’t accept the gospel? Truth convicts. God wants us to take the gospel light to a spiritually-blinded world. We need to persuade them that God really can shed new light on life. Be persistent and prayerful. The Almighty wants all men to see the Light and be saved.
