Today’s Scripture: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. II Corinthians 8:9

Do you remember hunting for hidden treasure as a kid? Hoping to find some treasure chest overflowing with precious jewels and glittering gold? Everyone at some point in life has dreamed of discovering something that would make them rich. What if I told you today that you already found it? I cannot express it better than Harriet Buell did when she penned these wonderful words:

My Father is rich in houses and lands,

He holdeth the wealth of the world in His hands,

Of rubies and diamonds, of silver and gold,

His coffers are full, He has riches untold.

I’m a child of the King, a child of the king,

With Jesus my Savior, I’m a child of the king.

All too often we treat life as though it were a treasure hunt. Always searching for wealth, we spend our days seeking to attain the next best thing. Today, you may not feel like you have much. Whether you are struggling financially or are stuck in a job in which you feel you’ll never advance, remember that your riches surpass anything this world has to offer. Jesus became poor so that you could become rich. You’ve been given an incredible gift that even the angels desire – your treasure in salvation.

When you placed your trust in Christ, you became the heir of an incorruptible kingdom that will never fade away. You are the child of the King who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. People may take things that are rightfully yours here on this sin-covered earth, but your true wealth is stored in a place where it is eternally secure. Rest in that fact today. Draw peace and joy from the truth that your life’s rewards are kept in Heaven above. Keep your eyes fixed on where your real treasure is and face today knowing that you are a child of the King.
