Today’s Scripture: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4

The door slammed shut behind him, and suddenly the zoo worker felt very vulnerable. He knew he was not alone in the jungle-like setting. Then he saw it. Two hundred feet away, crouched on a rock, was the biggest lion he had ever seen. The massive creature had been sleeping, but the sound of the heavy door woke him up. Rising to his feet, the lion approached the man with a hungry look on his face.

Armed with only a broom, the man managed to keep the lion from attacking him. He then noticed the food he was leaving for the great beast was ground up. After safely leaving the enclosure, he asked his co-worker about the unusual lion diet and was told the animal did not have teeth. The zoo worker then realized he had nothing to be afraid of.

The devil is big, strong, and very clever like a lion, but he has no teeth. Christians don’t have to fear him. He may threaten, scheme, and accuse us, but he cannot hurt us. When he attacks, we can quench his fiery darts with the shield of faith. Our faith is in the One who is greater than the devil, the risen Christ who defeated Satan at the cross. That means we have victory.

Like a toothless lion, the devil’s power has been broken. Do you believe this is true? Are you living like it? This means you don’t have to stay down when you fall. It means you have an Overruler who can turn bad situations the devil uses to destroy you into something that will help you. You do not have to live in fear because your enemy has already been defeated.
