|Today’s Scripture: And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, Acts 7:30-31|
|In 1879, Procter and Gamble’s best seller was candles. But the company was in trouble. Thomas Edison had invented the lightbulb, and it looked as if candles would become obsolete. Their fears became reality when the market for candles plummeted since they were now sold only for special occasions.
The outlook appeared to be bleak for Procter and Gamble. However, a forgetful employee at a small factory in Cincinnati forgot to turn off his machine when he went to lunch. What was the result of this act of forgetfulness? A frothing mass of lather filled with air bubbles. He almost threw the stuff away but instead decided to make it into soap. The soap floated. Thus, Ivory soap was born and became the mainstay of the Procter and Gamble Company.
Why was soap that floated such a hot item? In Cincinnati during that period, some people bathed in the Ohio River. Floating soap would never sink and consequently never got lost. Ivory soap became a best seller in Ohio and eventually across the country. Procter and Gamble saw the answer to their future where they least expected-in a tiny shop in Cincinnati.
When Moses sought God’s will, he found it in the most unexpected way: through a bush that burned but wouldn’t be consumed. God didn’t write it in the sky, but He told Moses when he least expected it. God will show you His will when you least expect it.
