|Today’s Scripture: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16|
|The glimmering glow of hundreds of candles illuminated the darkness of the auditorium. Jake stared at the twinkling lights in awe, just as he did every Christmas Eve. It never ceased to amaze him how beautiful a room full of candles could be.
Deep in thought, Jake looked up at his father. “Dad, why do we do we light all of these candles every year?”
“Well Jake, we light these candles to remind us that as Christians we should be lights to a world full of darkness, bright-shining examples of the truth we have in Christ. We have a light that should be shown to all men. Your little candle of truth is like a lighthouse to the lost which can lead them to the heavenly shore. That is something you must always remember.”
Have you ever been fascinated by the glow of a candle like Jake was? Isn’t it amazing how much light a little candle can give? In Matthew 5:14-16, we are told that we as Christians are the light of the world. We have a light that should never be hidden, but rather, put on a candlestick for all to see.
This time of joy and celebration is a perfect opportunity to share the illuminating light of the Gospel with every one you meet. This season, will you let your light shine like a glowing candle for all to see?
