Do you really believe God can give you the desires of your heart? Three trees on a hill in the woods were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, “Someday I hope to be a treasure chest so everyone will see my beauty.”

The second tree said, “Someday I will be a mighty ship which will take kings and queens across the waters.”

The third tree said, “I want to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest so people will see me and think of how close I am to God.”

After a few years, a group of woodsmen found the trees. Seeing the first tree, one woodsman decided to cut it down and sell the wood to a carpenter. The carpenter made it into a feed box for animals in a barn.

Another woodsman examined the second tree and decided to sell it to the shipyard. After he cut the tree down, it was made into a fishing boat.

The third tree was afraid it would also be cut down. One of the woodsmen thought it would be a good tree to keep for himself, and so he cut it in pieces and left it in his woodshed.

One day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box made from the first tree. When wealthy Magi visited with their precious gifts, the tree knew it had held the greatest Treasure ever.

Years later, some men took a trip in the fishing boat made from the second tree. During a fierce storm, one of the men stood and said, “Peace,” and the storm stopped. Then the tree knew it had carried the King of Kings in its boat.

Finally, a man took the third tree from the woodshed and carried it through the streets. Soldiers nailed the man to the tree and stood it up at the top of a hill. Right there, the tree realized it was as close to God as possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

Do you have dreams and desires? Don’t be afraid to share them with God. He may allow you to live them out, or He may have you fulfill them in a different way than you first thought. Either way, you won’t be disappointed. The way He chooses is best, and that’s all I want for Christmas.
