Today’s Scripture: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1

The city of Salzburg, Austria, was experiencing serious problems with pedestrian injuries. The data showed that 40% of pedestrians were injured because they were looking down at a smartphone. So, those in charge decided to put padding on the light posts. The padding was not intended to keep people from running into the posts. Rather, the message printed on the padding was designed to drive home a point: “We hope the car is as padded as this post.”

Too many people are walking around through life looking down. The new year is a time when many people are feeling down, discouraged, and are looking for a fresh start. How can we find that fresh start? Is there a password that can unlock it?

God’s desire for us is to be blessed. He wants our lives to be right and lined up with Him. This opening verse of Psalms tells us how this can take place – “Blessed is the man.”

What does it mean to walk? Well, it is the idea of progressing through life. When we walk with someone, we are walking for the purpose of enjoying that person. My wife, Karen, and I love to go for walks. When we walk, we enjoy each other’s company; we listen to one another and talk to one another. We try to exclude distractions such as those notifications from the smartphones. When we walk together, we are in harmony.

When we read about “Blessed is the man that walketh”, we read about the person who is in harmony, communication, or fellowship with God. That is how God intends for our relationship with Him to be.

So, the first part of the password to unlock your fresh start in 2020 is to walk with God and hear what He has to say to you.
