Today’s Scripture: Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. James 4:10

God loves to fill His children with blessings, but our cups have to be empty first. A woman’s husband died, leaving her with two growing boys and a large amount of debt. With nothing more than a bottle of oil, she couldn’t possibly pay off the debt and support her children. The creditor was going to take her sons and make them slaves until the debt could be paid. Desperate for help, the woman cried out to a prophet of God.

Elisha told the woman to borrow as many empty pots and jars as she could from her neighbors. Then she had to close the door behind her and pour the oil into each container. God would do the rest.

The woman did what Elisha told her to do, and watched as God performed a miracle: the bottle of oil somehow stayed full enough to fill every container in the house. She was able to sell the oil and survive off the profits.

Life will bring its share of highs and lows for all of us. This woman didn’t give up when she was at her lowest point, and neither should we quit when we’re up against impossible odds. All we have to do is bring our emptiness to God. That’s when we’ll be filled. The only vessels God won’t fill are those which are full of themselves.

Are you empty enough? Are you at the point where you’re willing to completely trust God with your problems, or do you still want to manipulate the outcome so it works in your favor? Pray that God would help you be willing to destroy the altar of self so you can get empty today.
