Today’s Scripture: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:6-8

Fireworks are some of the most incredible things to watch, but they don’t last long enough. The Christians of Galatia were a lot like firecrackers. Their country was fertile. They had great commerce, a temperate climate, and beautiful rivers—it was a great place to be. The people who lived there were known to receive teaching very easily, but they also had a bad reputation for quickly changing their minds.

When Paul wrote to the Galatians, he told them he was surprised they had so quickly embraced another gospel. Sometimes, Christians will take off like fireworks, only to lose steam and never be heard from again. This doesn’t mean they aren’t still Christians, but they have run out of fuel to keep them going. The way to avoid this is to make sure we are properly grounded in the Word of God.

If you watch enough Christian television or listen to Christian radio, you’ll hear a lot of things that sound really good. But if you don’t compare the teaching with Scripture, it won’t be long before you find yourself heading in the wrong direction spiritually. While it’s a great thing to have an open heart toward teaching, it’s just as important to have biblical wisdom so you know the difference between truth and error.

How do you get this wisdom? It comes through personal study, prayer, and sound Bible preaching and teaching. These will give you the foundation you need to stand firmly on God’s truth. Firecracker faith won’t fly, so get grounded in the Word today.
