Today’s Scripture: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ… 2¬†Corinthians¬†5:17,¬†20a

How can you make beautiful music out of something that is broken and headed for complete destruction? One inmate from the Angola prison knows the answer. This man was sent to serve a life sentence with no chance of receiving parole. To most, it may seem as though his life is already over, but what if I told you this man found new life behind bars? Saved after reading a Bible in the prison, his life has been incredibly changed. He now possesses an eternal, unwavering hope and a deep desire to serve the Lord.

Upon entering this maximum security facility, all he was allowed to retain in his possession was a manila envelope filled with his legal papers. This gifted musician took that envelope and stack of papers and made an incredible miniature guitar out of them. Years later, he has earned the trust of the guards and is now allowed to take the wood from old pianos viewed unfit to play, and he makes beautiful full-size acoustic guitars.

The way he makes music out of something headed toward destruction is a wonderful picture of what God did in his life and does with each of us. He takes a ruined sinner, reclaims that desperate soul as His own, and then makes a symphony of praise from his life. As a result of the prison’s exposure to the Gospel, many of the inmates have trusted Christ and witness to others in the prison on a daily basis. God’s affect on these men is a miraculous example and challenge to us. If these men can win souls behind bars, can’t we be zealous about winning them with our freedom?

Whether you see it or not, believer, God desires to use you in a great and mighty way. No matter what your past looks like, you have received a new life in Christ and have unlimited ability to reach souls for the Lord. What are you going to do with that responsibility? Are you going to erect your own cell to stay in, locked up behind the bars of insecurity and excuses? You have been saved from eternal devastation. Now it is your turn to reach another soul headed for destruction and set them on the path to spiritual production.
