Today’s Scripture: For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15

One of the best things about being a dad is when your kids come running up to you, wrap their arms around you, and call you “Daddy.” Those moments certainly make up for the moments of frustration and heartache that come with being a parent.

A lot of parents think that their kids didn’t come with an instruction manual. The good news is that while the hospital doesn’t give out a manual when you take your baby home, God does. He has given us His Word which contains instructions on how to be like the Heavenly Father. Our perfect Heavenly Father cares about and has compassion for His children.

There are many wrong impressions of God. Many people will say that there’s no way that we can know Him, or that He’s some impersonal force in the universe. Some people think that He’s a tyrant like some of the ancient Greek gods of mythology, just waiting to strike you with a lightning bolt. Others view God as a judge that just wants to give you a guilty verdict.

On the other side, there are people who think that God is like Santa Clause, who just gives gifts while requiring little accountability in return.

The Bible gives us a description of what God is like. He is a loving and merciful God, but He is holy. He does not tolerate rebellion. He is the One that has proven His love and goodness to those that have by faith received His Son. We can call Him our Heavenly Father.
