|Today’s Scripture: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Proverbs 28:13|
“Pastor, I don’t know what to do. We used to let our son on the internet unsupervised because we trusted him. I went on the computer a few months ago and found out he was looking at some questionable things. When I confronted him, he denied it. He is a good kid in every other area. I thought he would shape up. But now he is into pornography.”
This parent shared with me that they had taken steps to get rid of the Internet in their home. When we hide sins, we give Satan a golden opportunity to set foot in our lives. He pounces on the opportunity to enslave us in that sin by convincing us it is okay. By doing so, he thwarts our ability to grow spiritually.
We may say to ourselves, “I am faithful in every other area of my life. I only have this one major sin. I can control it.” This kind of thinking is sure to lead us down a path filled with heartache and destruction. Not only will we disappoint the Lord by going down that road, but we will also hurt our friends and family.
Are you holding on to a hidden sin? Perhaps your sin is one of inward rebellion or hatred for a fellow believer. It may be you read books filled with inappropriate material. Whatever your hidden sin may be, give it up. When you forsake your sin, the Lord will give you grace to prosper in your Christian walk.
