Today’s Scripture: Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Romans 12:12

When I was a boy, I lived in the South. One of the most common sights I would see as I walked down the street was people sitting on their front porches, rocking in their rocking chairs. They would sit there for hours upon hours expending energy, yet going nowhere.

When I think about that familiar sight, it reminds me of the concept of worrying. We exert tons of energy trying mentally to muddle through our problems. We stress over things out of our control and attempt in vain to find a solution. Worrying is like spending an entire day rocking vigorously in a rocking chair. We get nowhere.

What can we do when our lives feel out of control? God’s Word gives us three specific actions we can take to find relief from our worrying. First, we are to rejoice in the wonderful hope we have as believers. Second, we are to obtain patient in tribulation. And third we are to continue being instant  in prayer.

Are you worrying away your energy? Whether you are a single father consumed by the fear you will not be able to make ends meet or a college student stressed about your studies—rejoice, be patient, and pray constantly. Only God can give a solution for your problems. Bring them all to Him. Don’t spend your time worrying in a rocking chair—going nowhere fast.
