Today’s Scripture: And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

In 1870, Philip Bliss wrote the great hymn, “Jesus Loves Even Me.” In this hymn, he wrote how assured he was that Jesus loved him. Here are verses 2, 4, and 5.

Though I forget Him, and wander away,
Still He doth love me wherever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms I do flee,
When I remember that Jesus loves me.

Jesus loves me, and I know I love Him;
Love brought Him down my poor soul to redeem;
Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree;
Oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me!

If one should ask of me, how can I tell?
Glory to Jesus, I know very well!
God’s Holy Spirit with mine doth agree,
Constantly witnessing Jesus loves me.

Are you as certain as Philip Bliss was that Jesus loves you? This knowledge is not only the very foundation of the Gospel, but it is also the blessed hope that gets us through each and every day. It is God’s unmerited love for us that makes us want to serve Him.

The greatest gift God has ever given mankind was His love. It provided salvation, and it gives us hope and purpose in our Christian walk. We know we can trust that God will do what is best for us because He loves us. What He shows is best for us probably won’t be what we thought! However, we don’t need to fear; we can trust God because He loves us!

If you don’t trust His ways as you should, maybe it is because you aren’t as certain of His love as you ought to be. If you don’t doubt His love, you shouldn’t doubt His plan. His love makes it impossible for His plan to be anything less than the best.

As Philip Bliss said, “I am so glad that Jesus loves even me.”
