Today’s Scripture: But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Luke 12:48

Do you realize that the greater the blessing God pours on us, the more we owe Him in service? Christ gave the illustration of the man who didn’t know he was committing a crime. He would still be punished, but not as much as if he knowingly disobeyed the law.

If you have the Holy Spirit indwelling you, God requires more from you than if you weren’t indwelt. If you have access to the complete Word of God, God requires more from you than someone who does not. If you have freedom to preach the Gospel without consequences from the government, God requires you to use that freedom.

He does not require a lost person to walk in the Spirit because they don’t have the Spirit. Even an Old Testament saint didn’t have the invaluable blessing of being baptized by the Spirit. The prophets did not have the entire Word of God for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction. We do! God expects our lives to be changed because of the blessings He has given us.

An extremely small percentage of people in history have had freedom to serve God without being imprisoned, tortured, or killed. God expects His children to take advantage of their freedom (if they have it). If you were raised in a good church, God expects more from you than from someone who did not have that blessing.

We often want the blessings of God without the responsibilities that come with them. We sometimes find ourselves thinking, “Why does he/she get that blessing and I don’t?” However, we fail to realize the responsibility God requires when He gives a blessing.

Thank God for the blessings you do have, and make sure you are doing the things required of you that come with those blessings. When you do, God will bless you even more.
