Today’s Scripture: My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: Proverbs 3:11

The most encouraging thing I can tell you today is that God loves you. His love for us is so incomprehensible that we could never explain His love. Though His love isn’t able to be explained, God demonstrated His love when He died for us. He offered His salvation to everyone who has ever lived. Those of us who have accepted His death, burial, and resurrection to save us now have a perfect Father Who loves us.

As a perfect Father, He will chasten us when we need it. He does this so we will learn from our sin and grow closer to Him. His love requires Him to do this, or else we would destroy ourselves. Our Father isn’t going to let us ruin our lives without doing anything. We need to be thankful that He loves us so much He is willing to work in our lives.

In Proverbs, it tells us to “Despise not the chastening of the LORD.” Though we will not enjoy it when it comes, we can recognize it for what it is. Then we can determine to learn from it, and the end result will be a closer relationship with God than ever before.

The Bible says that every child of God goes through God’s chastening. Maybe you are going through chastening or a trial right now. May I encourage you not to quit? God will never allow a trial too soon, and He will never let one stay too long. He has perfect timing even in the hardest of times. You can be assured that God won’t let a trial go on longer than He knows you can handle.

Don’t be weary of his correction. Make it through, and you will see what God is doing: drawing His child closer to Himself. That is every good father’s wish for his children. Don’t despise what God is turning to good.
