Today’s Scripture: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13

Too many of us have a Christian vocabulary rather than a Christian experience.”Have a good day,” the waitress told me as she walked away. I was startled. This had never happened before.

I was on vacation and stopped at a local restaurant. After my meal, I prepared to pay the waitress when it happened: I wasn’t charged for my meal. I had to find out why!

I signaled for the waitress, and asked her, “Where’s our bill?”

“It’s paid.”

Puzzled, I asked, “Who paid?”

“I can’t tell you.”

I asked again, but she wouldn’t tell me. I tried to pay my way, but someone had already covered my expense.

Most of us would be equally surprised. In our society, we feel everything worth having is worth working for-even salvation.

In our self-dependence, we’ve forgotten or ignored the “Paid” receipt sitting in front of us. We still work diligently to scrub away our faults, solve our problems, and “do” life on our own terms. But our “receipt” tells us Christ has already covered our living expenses.

You may be a new Christian struggling with understanding the sanctification process, a seasoned saint wrestling with God for control over your life, or someone fed up with life’s challenges. Be encouraged-the power to change lies in Christ. Meditate on this truth. Determine today to “do” life in the strength of Christ. You can have a good day; your bill has already been paid.
