Nothing but the Bible is foolproof. I’ve seen toasters, automobiles, baby strollers, toys, and food items recalled over the years, but I was surprised to find that several cookbooks have also been recalled. In 1977, one recalled cookbook used an untested recipe which involved putting a can of condensed milk in a Crock-Pot. People who didn’t follow the directions had the recipe explode in their faces.
It’s always a good idea to follow the directions. It can make the difference between a good meal and an explosive one.
Following the directions in God’s Word makes all the difference between a good life and one that explodes in our faces. Everybody talks about the great benefits of the Christian life, but few are willing to pay the price of obedience and separated living. And they wonder why their lives don’t turn out right.
Friends, we have the Word of God at our fingertips, and there’s no excuse for not doing what it says. If the “recipe” of our lives doesn’t turn out the way we expected, it’s usually because we didn’t follow the cookbook’s directions, not because the Word of God needs to be recalled.
Maybe there are some situations in your life that seem to be exploding out of control. It could be that your marriage is struggling, your kids are getting off to a poor start in school, or you are in financial trouble because you lost your job. Hold onto what God’s Word says. It will guide you to make the best decisions. When you choose to follow its instructions, the finished product will be exceptional, not explosive.
I find that doing the will of God leaves me with no time for disputing about His plans. — George Macdonald
