Matthew Henry said, “Peace is such a precious jewel that I would give anything for it but truth.” I believe God loves us so much He would give anything in the world but truth so we could experience peace with Him. The sad truth is, we are sinners and God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. But the good news is, God gave the most precious thing He had to offer—His Son—to die for our sins and make peace possible.
When we put our trust in Jesus Christ’s death, shed blood, and resurrection alone for eternal life, we can experience peace with God. Christ’s shed blood cleanses us and provides forgiveness for all our sins. When God views us, instead of seeing us in our sins, He observes the righteousness of Christ.
God made peace between us and Him possible so we could live in His peace. This is a big part of the abundant life Jesus referred to in John 10:10. But many who are at peace with God are not experiencing His peace because they struggle with anxiety, bitterness, fear, depression, and guilt over past failures. Christians who desire God’s peace must release these encumbrances so they are free to serve Him, live according to His will, and obey His Word.
Do you wrestle with these hindrances? You don’t have to. Your peace with God means absolutely nothing—not even your spotted past—can change the righteousness and forgiveness you have in Christ. Let this piece of peace bring sweet release for your troubles today.
A great many people are trying to make peace, but that has already been done. God has not left it for us to do; all we have to do is enter into it. — D.L. Moody
