Today’s Scripture: Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. Proverbs 13:13

God doesn’t lie, deceive, or bluff. The sooner we realize that, the better off we will be. When God says something, He means it. We see all through scripture that when God gives a warning and consequence, it comes true. God told Adam, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they died spiritually and began to die physically. When God promised the destruction of Jerusalem and the captivity of Judah, it came exactly as God said.

We, as sinners, deserve to spend eternity separated from God. But He loved us and provided a way of salvation. He sent His Son to die in our place and promised that “whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16b, 18) We are condemned unless we accept Christ’s death on our behalf. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The only hope we have of avoiding that destiny is found in God’s Word. If we refuse to heed what God has said, we will face the destruction of an eternal Hell.

This also applies to our daily lives as Christians. We start each day in a spiritual battle; we can prepare for it by spending time reading God’s Word, or we can ignore it and act as if everything is fine. However, if we ignore what God says in His Word, we will be utterly unprepared for the things we will face throughout the day. If we heed what we read in the Bible, we will be rewarded both here and in Heaven, but if we despise His words and ignore them, we will not be able to stand against the devil.

God’s warning is clear-heed His Word and be rewarded or despise it and be destroyed. How will you respond? Remember, His words stand true. Make the smart decision – study God’s Word and do what He commands-and you will find the key to life.
