Today’s Scripture: The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. Proverbs¬†12:19

Have you ever confronted a child who has lied? His defenses quickly begin to fail because he has to keep using lies to support his first mistruth. Eventually, he gives himself away because he can no longer navigate through his own tangled web of dishonesty.

The same is true of adults. Although we may be a little more sly and tactful in how we phrase our lies, it will eventually come out in the wash. Lying is like putting an ink pen in a jacket pocket and sticking that jacket in the washing machine. For a while, the pen has no effect, but before long, the ink begins to bleed. By the time the washer is finished, the ink has splattered all over the jacket.

When we lie about one thing, the deceit keeps building to the point where we can no longer remember what we said or to whom we said it. God’s Word states that truth lasts forever, but a lying tongue lasts only for a moment. Just like the ink, the lie eventually splatters all over for everyone to see.

Have you been covering up lies thinking they will stay hidden? Remember, the Lord tells us lies do not stay hidden long. Sooner or later everyone will know. Why not confess those lies right now? When you live in the truth, you will not have to worry about your lies coming out in the wash.
