Today’s Scripture: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. Galatians 1:6-7

Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” He taught Himself as the only way to Heaven. All the religions of the world are based on man’s opinion on what he must do to appease the gods of that religion. God has provided eternal life through the death of Jesus Christ to pay for our sins; however, it didn’t take long for man to pervert the message of salvation as we see the Apostle Paul was already dealing with it to the Galatians.

However, many of these perversions of the gospel still continue today. Most of the cults come from changes to the Word of God, and many teachers in the main denominations also teach things that are contrary to God’s Word. The Roman Catholic Church has gone so far as to teach in direct contradiction to its own Bible.

Here are a few examples. The following Scripture quotations are taken from the Catholic Bible at (New Jerusalem Version ©1985)

  • “And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;” (Luke 1:47) Mary recognized her need for a Savior, but the Catholic Church teaches that Mary was conceived without sin.
  • “For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and all that these contain, but on the seventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.” (Exodus 20:11) God said He made the universe in six days, but the Roman Catholic Church now accepts the theory of evolution even though it was invented as a way to remove the need for God.
  • “The next day, he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, there is the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) However, the Catholic Church teaches that some sins are not fully paid in this life and thus require a payment in purgatory to make us free from sin so we are worthy for Heaven. What sins do we still have and have to pay for through our suffering if Jesus took away our sin?

Let’s make sure our doctrines line up with the Word of God, or we, too, will end up in contradiction to the truth of God’s Word.
