Today’s Scripture: And the LORD¬†sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. Numbers 21:6-7

There was a family of wayward Christians who were church members. They had once been active for Christ but had fallen away. There was the father and three sons, Jim, John, and Sam. The pastor had talked to them about their condition, and many of the congregation had tried to get them to come to church, but to no avail. One day when the boys were out in the pasture, a large rattlesnake bit John. The doctor was called, and he did all he could, but the outlook for John’s recovery was very dim. The doctor told the father the only thing he could do was pray. The pastor was called and informed of the situation. The pastor arrived, and began to pray as follows:

“Oh, wise and righteous Father, we thank You that in Your wisdom you sent this rattlesnake to bite John to bring him to his senses. He has not been inside the church for all these years, and it is doubtful that he has, in all that time, ever felt the need to pray. Now, we trust this experience will be a valuable lesson to him and will lead to his genuine repentance.

And now, Oh Father, will you send another rattlesnake to bite Jim, and another to bite Sam, and another really big one to bite the old man. For years, we have done everything we know to get them to turn back to You, but all in vain. It seems, therefore, that what our combined efforts could not do, this rattlesnake has done. We thus conclude the only thing that will really do this family any real good is rattlesnakes. So Lord, send us bigger and better rattlesnakes. Amen.”Is there anything in your life that you aren’t dealing with? Don’t wait for God to send the rattlesnakes! Ask Him for forgiveness, and get right with Him today.
