Today’s Scripture: Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Ephesians 5:33

Men and women seem to have their own separate languages. How so? Perhaps you need some proof…now that the holidays are almost upon us, let’s use a very realistic scenario.

After all the festivities have passed, your wife may be contemplating how many pounds the scale is showing she has added to her personage. Dissatisfied with the current state of things, she exclaims, “Good grief! I need to lose a few pounds after all of those holiday meals!”

From your sometimes clueless state as a husband, you decide to buy her a book entitled, How to Lose 13 Pounds in Two Weeks. After all, she seems pretty upset about the whole ordeal, so you might as well do something helpful for her, right?

You are surprised that she is offended. But she is thinking ‘Sure I may need to lose a few pounds, but I wish he would just love me for who I am.‘ Since you need help as well, she goes out and buys you a book entitled, Successful Relationships Made Simple. This is the third relationship book she has bought you. You are slightly miffed that she does not seem to respect you for who you are. So you nonchalantly set it down, and it begins to fulfill its destiny as a coaster on the coffee table.

Sometimes it is hard to understand that relationships don’t need to be a mind game. The husband needs the respect of his wife even when he makes mistakes, and the wife needs the love of her husband and reassurance that she is truly special. When we apply God’s Word to a marriage, family relationships, or friendships, we will experience true success.
