Today’s Scripture: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:28
One summer day, my granddaughter Willow and I were having some fun in the pool. I had her in my arms and she was just laughing and splashing away. Then I started wading toward the deep end of the pool. She began to cling tighter and tighter as she noticed the water get deeper and deeper. So, I held her close and said, “Don’t worry Willow, I’ve got you.” In no time at all she was back to having fun secure in my arms.
That is the kind of relationship we have with our Heavenly Father – completely secure in Him. Just as Willow knew she was safe with me and that I would never let her sink, we are able to be completely sure of our salvation because our Father will never let us go. Simple, right? It should be. Unfortunately, there is far too much literature and way too many well-known preachers that would like to tell you otherwise.
We live in a very mixed up world today. We don’t need confusion over eternal security on top of all the confusion that already exists! Anything that is laced with works to maintain salvation is going to lead you down a very complicated path that will have you more confused and insecure than you ever thought possible.
Stick to the clear truth of God’s Word. Always read Scripture in context. If a verse seems to contradict eternal security, read the surrounding verses. Look at to whom the passage is addressed. For example, anything written to brethren is referring to believers and is usually dealing with discipleship.
I have a glorious, confident expectation of eternal life and so should you. Don’t let man’s twisted doctrines rob your peace and joy. The Christian life isn’t sink or swim. It’s saved, secure and sure.
