Remember the days of pay phone booths? A man was in a phone booth, and he went over the 3-minute limit on a long-distance call. The operator interrupted the conversation and told him to put more money in the phone. By the time the man remembered what he was talking about, she interrupted again. This happened several times. Finally, the man became indignant and hung up, but he couldn’t get out of the door in the phone booth. He thought the operator had locked the door, but it was stuck.
The embarrassed man called the operator back and apologized, saying, “Operator, operator, I’m so sorry. I’ll put whatever money you want in the phone, just unlock the door.”
When the caller had put all of his money in the pay phone, the operator sharply said, “Just kick the door, and it’ll open, Sir.” He had trapped himself in the phone booth, and now he would have to get himself out.
Sometimes we trap ourselves in our own sinful habits. We allow secret sins like jealousy, bitterness, pride, prejudice, lust, self-pity, and unbelief to go unchecked until they trap us. Fortunately, we have an Operator who can help us out of the trap of our sins. Whenever we call Him and confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse us from head to toe. This releases us from the trap. Once we are freed, we are wise never to return to it again.
Do you feel like you are stuck in a rut because of a besetting sin? Confess it to God right this moment, and He will set you free.
