Today’s Scripture: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:16

An army is only as strong as its armor. No matter how strong a soldier is, if he doesn’t have proper armor, then he is vulnerable. If a warrior is powerful but has no defense, he will be destroyed before he fulfills his purpose. As soldiers in God’s army, it is our duty to put on our armor. By reading Ephesians 6, you will see the entire armor of God.

Today, we will be looking at the part of the armor that is “above all”: the shield of faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) So it makes sense that this piece of armor is even more important than the rest of the armor. Faith is what it takes to be saved, faith is what you practice when you obey God, and faith is what protects you from the fiery darts of the devil.

Try putting on the armor of God without faith. Without faith, you won’t believe truth, so you cannot gird your loins with truth. Without faith, you will only have an old nature, so you won’t have righteousness for a breastplate. Without faith, you won’t want to give the gospel, so you won’t protect your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Without faith, you won’t have a shield. Without faith, you can’t put on the helmet of salvation. Finally, without faith, the Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) will be piercing you, not the enemy.

Do you see how foundational faith is? Today, put your faith into practice; it will quench the fiery darts of the wicked.
