Today’s Scripture: For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm 1:6

Why is it that so few people find salvation? Because everyone wants to do something to earn eternal life. It is part of our human sin nature that we want to do something, so we usually try to add works to something that is free. You cannot pay for something that is free. You can’t work for something that is free.

There is a coming judgment for the wicked and ungodly. The wicked will be punished. You might wish that it was not so, but it is in the Word of God. The Lord is the Righteous Judge.

We have many judges, some who are good judges and others who are not so good. These judges are humans and can make mistakes. But there is one Judge who knows all the evidence, all the intentions, thoughts, and deepest parts of each person, and He will judge righteously. No one is going to argue that God got it wrong. No one is going to say, “Well, He was too harsh or too lenient.” No one can argue that they really did not do it. If God says you did it, you did it. That is the righteous Judge, and He will separate the wheat from the chaff and the sheep from the goats. No unbeliever is able to stand in the assembly of the righteous.

Many people think they are righteous because of the good works they have done in the name of the Lord. (Matthew 7:22)  No matter how many good things you have done, this alone will not save you from the final judgment of God.  You are still ungodly and still a sinner in God’s eyes.

Each one of us have been given the opportunity to be declared righteous by the blood that was shed on the cross of Calvary by the Son of God. Nothing we can do ourselves can take away our sin. How do we pass then from this group of ungodly people that will stand in judgement and face everlasting hell into the category of being a righteous, godly person that will spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven? Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, “For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

So, the final unlock code for a fresh start in 2020 is this: In order to be blessed, you must first be made righteous. If you have not taken this step, do so today. Then, your new year will be off to an amazing start!
