Today’s Scripture: But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk… 1 Corinthians 7:17a
Once there was a poor, lowly stone cutter. As he was working, he saw people gathering together and knew it must be the king. The stone cutter joined the crowd and gazed longingly at the king. As he was admiring the king’s power and majesty, he thought to himself, “I wish I had the power and majesty of a king.”
Suddenly, he was transformed from a stone cutter to a king. He felt wonderful about the power he had until he was traveling to another place. The sun was scorching him and his entire entourage. All the people with him were being overcome by the great heat of the sun, so he thought, “I wish I was as powerful and radiant as the sun.”
Immediately, he became the sun. He enjoyed being so powerful and radiant. He could see the great kings of the earth withering in the heat. He felt very powerful until a cloud moved right in his path.
He then wished that he was a cloud; suddenly, he became a cloud! He loved being a cloud. Not only was he able to stop the power of the sun, but he also was developing into a storm cloud. He drenched the earth with rain. There were now rivers where there were never rivers before.
He was excited about the power he had as a cloud until he noticed that the water could move everything in its path except the stones. He wished that he was as unmovable as the stones, and immediately he became a stone.
As a stone, no flood of the earth could move him. He felt unmovable and strong until he heard a lowly stone cutter coming his way. He quickly realized that he was not as powerful as he thought when the humble stone cutter started chipping away at this great immovable rock.
People seek glory and power and will never find it. We must be content with the place God wants us and where He has put us. That is the only place we can find true fulfillment.
