Today’s Scripture: Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. Acts 5:29
One of the lessons that we find in the book of Daniel is a very relevant lesson for today. There is a temptation that all of us face, and that is the temptation to just float along in the current of the world and not stick out. Don’t go against the flow or go against the grain. However, that is not how faith should act.
What a boring story it would have been if Daniel had just been taken captive to Babylon and that was it – nothing else ever happened to him. On the contrary, we find that if you are going to live out a robust faith in this world, your faith will be tried.
If your faith was put on trial, would you be found guilty? That is definitely an interesting question. In Acts 5:29, the apostles made a decision. They said, “We ought to obey God rather than man.”
They were physically persecuted and beaten for their decision. Later, they went out from that persecution rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer for the name of Christ.
Christian, in this world your faith will be tested. How will you respond? Will you go along with the flow, careful to not make any waves? Or will you be like Daniel and the apostles, choosing to stand for righteousness when no one else around you is standing?
