And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Genesis 3:7
The eyes of Adam and Eve were now opened. They had sinned against their Creator Who only loved them and wanted what was best for them. They now knew that they were naked, and in Genesis 3 we see the first example of religion – man trying to get back to God through his own efforts.
What Adam and Eve did not know was that the beginning of God’s plan was unfolding. God knew before He created Adam and Eve that they would rebel and sin. The all-wise Creator would show the world that He could give us freedom to choose – free will, our own volition – knowing that we would reject Him. From there, He would unfold the plan of the ages, showcasing how amazing He is.
Adam and Eve took on a debt. They took on a mortgage with the devil , and they had no ability to repay that debt. They were now spiritually children of the devil. All who are born of Adam have inherited that debt – they are born penniless and cannot repay this debt of sin.
Praise God that He did something about it. Here we see grace unfold early in Scripture. God knew that Adam and Eve had rebelled, and yet He still came to seek them out in the Garden. Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves from the presence of the Lord, knowing that they had sinned.
Believer, how many times do we do the same thing? We knowingly go against what God has told us. Then, we try to hide that sin from the One Who knows all things. Let’s not try to hide our sin. Instead, let’s confess it right away and get right with our Creator.
