“What Is Sin?”
Man calls it an accident, God calls it abomination.
Man calls it a defect, God calls it a disease.
Man calls it an error, God calls it an enmity.
Man calls it a liberty, God calls it lawlessness.
Man calls it a trifle, God calls it a tragedy.
Man calls it a mistake, God calls it a madness.
Man calls it a weakness, God calls it willfulness.
— from a Christian periodical
If you scratch any Christian hard enough, below the surface you’re going to find a sinner. I wish I could tell you that I have reached the point where I no longer sin — that I’m totally immune from its influence in my life. But that’s quite contrary to the truth (though I pray that, as I grow in Christ, I sin less). We’re all sinners; only one Person wasn’t a sinner, Jesus.
This is what makes salvation so incredible. God saw sinful mankind and had compassion, sending His Son to pay the penalty for our sins, overcoming sin and death once and for all. Then He gave us hope for the future with His glorious Resurrection — Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Is it possible for us to eliminate sin and its effects? Unfortunately, no. But God has given us His Holy Spirit which enables us to overcome its influence in our lives.
Praise God for His wonderful, marvelous, amazing grace today!
