Today’s Scripture: And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:11

On the island of Tasmania, there is a creature about the size of a small to medium dog. You would be wise to not let the size of this creature fool you. The Tasmanian Devil packs the same power of an animal four times its size. It is an absolute eating machine. In thirty minutes, it can eat up to forty percent of its body weight, and when it eats, it devours the entire carcass.

While God can protect you from this tiny devourer, He can also protect you from the spiritual Devourer. In our Scripture today, God says that when we honor Him with our giving and give to Him what is rightfully His, He will rebuke the Devourer for our sake.

What are some things that can devour? Our selfishness and pride, for starters. Our pride can get us into a lot of trouble. I believe that if we are faithful and giving to the Lord, He will help us save money and make better decisions. I am not saying that everything is going to go right in your life every single time, but I do know that God will make it all work out for your good.

Another thing that can devour is impulse consumerism. How often do you have trouble when you are in the checkout line, standing next to all of the candy, snacks, and drinks? Most likely, you did not go into the grocery store with “1 candy bar” on your shopping list. Impulse consumerism on the internet can destroy you. Tithing can keep that from happening. I really believe God will protect you from the Devourer in so many ways.
