Today’s Scripture: Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 1 Timothy 6:5
There is a concept called the American dream. It is the idea that if you work hard, you can have a very decent life. Too often, people fall for this idea and spend their lives focused on attaining wealth. Hard work is not bad. Money is not bad, but I hope that the hard work that you are putting in is so that you can give to the Lord.
We came into this world with nothing – not even a pair of pants or a shirt on our backs. It is certain that we will take nothing with us when we die. So where is contentment? It is remembering that it is not feeling entitled. It is in being content with the basics – food, clothing, and shelter. If God blesses us beyond that, then praise Him; but life should not be about getting the next big thing.
Here is the important lesson to learn: Godliness with contentment is great gain. I have said it before, and I will continue to say it – I would rather live with 90% and God’s blessing on my life, than with 100% without His blessing.
Let the Spirit of God work in your life to help you see what is real, and what is important – contentment.
