Today’s Scripture: Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13

Officer Miller stood looking at the hardened criminal in the cell. “How did you become the man sitting before me today?” he asked. “Did you not have a family that loved you or a pastor who cared enough to help you?”

“Yeah, I had all those things,” he replied with a sigh. “When I was twelve, I started rebelling against my parents. I stopped going to church and then started getting into bad stuff on the internet. It didn’t take long before I hit rock bottom.”

The treachery of sin can harden our hearts before we even know what happened. It can drag us down to a low we never thought possible. All it takes is a little sin that keeps getting swept aside. In our text, we are told to be alert so we do not fall into this trap and develop a hard heart.

Do you have a sin you keep sweeping under the rug? Are you going places you shouldn’t on the internet? Maybe you are chatting online with unbelievers of the opposite gender you don’t even know. Perhaps you’re allowing an attitude of rebellion to overtake you or trying a few drugs here and there. Whatever the sin is, bring it to the surface before it hardens your heart. Sweep out the dirt before it is too late-under your rug might be rock bottom.
