Today’s Scripture: Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.  I Corinthians 15:58

Have you ever driven down a familiar road and become so comfortable you neglected to look at the signs? On the roads near my house, the signs change all the time-especially the speed limit signs. Sometimes it is difficult to realize because I drive those roads every day. I have become used to them.

The same can be true in the Christian life. Sometimes we become accustomed to doing only what is expected of us. Everyday becomes a routine. We no longer check the “signs” in our spiritual life to make sure we are standing firm in our beliefs, growing and doing the work of the Lord. We coast past the changes we need to make because we have become too comfortable.

Often, when we get to that point, we find ourselves in trouble. We blow a spiritual “speed limit” by saying something immature, treating someone poorly, or slacking off at our job. If we would have been paying attention, we would have been able to alter our thoughts and behavior before we made that mistake.

Have you become too comfortable? You may no longer be taking your area of ministry seriously. Perhaps you are a parent who is now content to allow your child to get away with wrongdoing. Be always abounding in the work of the Lord. Don’t forget to watch your “signs.” When you pay attention, you can avoid getting into an accident.
